Visit of H.G. Iakovos of Claudiopolis

Visit of H.G. Bishop Iakovos of Claudiopolis

Doxology for 28 October 1940
‘ Όχι Day ‘

On the 6th Sunday of Luke, 24th October 2021, we had the blessing of welcoming His Grace Iakovos, Bishop of Claudiopolis, to our community. This marked His Grace’s first visit to St Andrew’s since his episcopal ordination, which took place here on the Sunday of Orthodoxy earlier this year. Accompanying His Grace was Deacon Victor Ktorakis.

Bishop Iakovos presided over the service of Orthros and the Divine Liturgy, where he delivered a sermon on the Epistle reading of the day, stressing the importance of the Holy Scriptures in the lives of the faithful (click here to read the sermon). After the Diving Liturgy, His Grace presided over the annual Doxology held in honour of ‘ Όχι Day ‘, the Greek nation’s ‘No’ to the ultimatum made by Fascist Italy’s Benito Mussolini on the 28th of October 1940. During the Doxology, His Grace read the encyclical issued by His Eminence Archbishop Nikitas of Thyateira and Great Britain.
